The CEQA: A California Law Under Review
Yoel Wazana, founder
and CEO of Micro Solutions Enterprises, cares deeply about the environment. His
company is based on the innovative idea of remanufacturing cartridge toners to
create a new product. Understandably, environmental issues are one of his prime
concerns.
One recent topic that Yoel Wazana has been
interested in is a new Californian environmental law. Micro Solutions
Enterprises is located in Van Nuys, California, which is one reason why Wazana
has such an interest in the well-being of the state.
Recently, it was announced that a landmark law which California has
followed for more than 40 years is currently being challenged by Democrats.
Governor Jerry Brown has contended that the regulations of protecting the
California environment have been abused which have therefore thwarted important
developments.
The Legislature is currently moving toward adjournment, but the California Environmental Quality Act law is drawing much attention to environmentalists.
Senator Darrell Steinberg said that he was confident that the proposed
changes to the law would win legislative approval. Among these changes includes
exempting urban projects from parking and aesthetic reviews and to speed up the
pace of litigation.
In 1970, CEQA requires every city, country, and public agency in
California to sufficiently analyze proposed projects and to implement practicable
actions.
The bill is highly supported by the labor and environmental organizations
of California. Mr. Steinberg believes that this law is in need of a fine tune
up.
This law was signed into action by President Ronald Reagan in 1970.
Ultimately, Yoel Wazana believes in the good of California’s environment.
He has embarked on green initiatives to help support the environment in a
variety of ways. Yoel Wazana and MSE have been using waste-to-energy programs.
They have also reduced their packing material volume up to 80%.
